My Career Choice: Michelle Rendo – IDT Corporation

Michelle Rendo is Vice President of Marketing at IDT Corporation, where she leads the global marketing strategy for BOSS Money, the company’s international remittance and payments brand.

Michelle oversees integrated marketing initiatives across core and adjacent products, including Mobile Top-Ups, e-Gifts, and eSIMs, driving growth through data-driven insights, customer-centric strategy, and innovative go-to-market execution. With more than 30 years of experience in the remittance industry, Michelle has built a reputation for accelerating revenue growth, strengthening brand equity, and delivering measurable business impact across diverse international markets.

Can you point to one event that triggered your interest in your career?

My interest in the remittance and payments industry was sparked early in my career when I saw firsthand how international money transfers help families stay connected across borders. I realized that what we were building wasn’t just a financial service but a lifeline for people supporting loved ones around the world. That moment gave my work deeper sense of purpose and ignited a lasting passion for building brands that serve real human needs.

Today I’m proud to work with BOSS Money, a platform that makes sending money internationally faster, easier, and more reliable. The service is consistently ranked among the highest-rated money transfer apps, with more than 110,000 five-star reviews across Google Play and the Apple App Store. In June 2025, FXC Intelligence named BOSS Money the #1 app in the United States for sending money based on customer ratings with a near-perfect 4.9 score, which reflects the trust customers place in the platform every day.

What about this career choice did you find most appealing?

What appealed to me most was the intersection of strategy, innovation, and human impact. Marketing in the payments and remittance space requires understanding global communities, cultural nuances, and how people support family across borders. It’s incredibly rewarding to help create products and campaigns that make financial services more accessible while building lasting trust with customers.

At BOSS Money, we’re constantly evolving to meet those needs. Our rapidly expanding international remittance service allows residents in the U.S. to send money quickly and securely to loved ones across Latin America, the Caribbean, Africa, and South Asia. With flexible payout options including cash pickup, mobile wallets, bank deposits and debit card transfers, we are focused on making the customer experience as seamless as possible.  Being part of a team that continues to innovate to simplify customers’ lives is deeply fulfilling.

What steps did you take to begin your education or training?

I earned my undergraduate degree from Rutgers University and later completed my MBA in Marketing from the Rutgers University School of Business. My education gave me a strong foundation in strategic thinking, consumer behavior, and brand management. However, much of my development came from hands-on experience while working across different markets, launching campaigns, and learning how to adapt strategies to resonate with different audiences around the world.

Along the way, were people encouraging or discouraging?

I’ve been fortunate to have mentors and colleagues who were consistently encouraging throughout my career. Early on, leaders recognized my enthusiasm and entrusted me with challenging projects and leadership opportunities. That support played a critical role in building my confidence and accelerating my professional growth.

Did you ever doubt your decision and attempt a career change?

Like most professionals, there were moments when I questioned my path or explored what a different career might look like. However, each time I reflected on the impact of the work, helping families stay connected, enabling financial access, and building brands that people rely on, I felt reassured that this is exactly where I’m meant to be.

When did your career reach a tipping point?

A defining tipping point in my career came when I transitioned into a leadership role and began shaping not just campaigns, but overall business strategy. That shift allowed me to connect brand-building efforts directly to customer impact and business growth. It was the moment I moved from contributing to initiatives to driving them by leading multicultural teams, influencing direction, and delivering measurable results.

Can you describe a challenge you had to overcome?

One of the most significant challenges I’ve faced has been navigating global marketing across diverse regions and cultures. Each market brings its own customer expectations, regulatory landscape, and communication style. Striking the right balance between maintaining a consistent global brand and tailoring messaging to resonate locally requires both strategic discipline and creative flexibility.  It’s an ongoing process that demands collaboration, cultural awareness, and a commitment to continuous learning.

What single skill has proven to be most useful?

Adaptability has been the most valuable skill throughout my career. The fintech and marketing landscapes evolve rapidly, driven by emerging technologies and shifting consumer behaviors. Staying effective requires a willingness to embrace change, remain curious, and quickly adjust strategies in response to new insights and opportunities.

What accomplishment are you most proud of?

I’m most proud of helping build and grow brands that genuinely serve communities. Whether contributing to global expansion efforts or leading marketing initiatives for BOSS Money at IDT, the most meaningful achievements are those that create real-world impact such as supporting families, expanding financial access, and strengthening connections across borders.

Any advice for others entering your profession?

Stay curious and commit to continuous learning. Modern marketing sits at the intersection of creativity, data, technology, and cultural insight. Be willing to explore new tools, invest time in truly understanding your customers, and surround yourself with people who challenge and inspire you. Most importantly, choose work that feels meaningful because a strong sense of purpose is what sustains long-term success.
