A Standing Ovation for New Jersey Theatre During the Holiday Season 

Enjoy a holiday play or musical in a New Jersey Theatre. Marina Kennedy gives her recommendations.

Are you visiting friends in the Garden State or just looking for a day out in one of New Jersey’s many charming communities? Put a show on your schedule. Whether it’s for the whole family, a special night out or going solo, there’s something for everyone.  You’ll also find great restaurants and shopping near the theatres. Get ready to enjoy top productions.

Frozen at Paper Mill Playhouse in Millburn now through January 11th. The spectacular musical is inspired by the Disney animated classic and features a stellar cast.  

It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play at The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey in Madison now through December 28th.  Just right for the holidays, it is based on the story “The Greatest Gift” by Philip Van Doren Stern. 

Just Another Day at New Jersey Repertory Company in Long Branch now through December 20th. Dan Lauria’s new play is about a comedy writer and a sophisticated poet in their 70’s who meet daily on a park bench.

A Christmas Carol at McCarter Theatre Center in Princeton from December 9th to December 28th. The show is a treasured holiday tradition and this year Cameron Knight plays the role of Ebenezer Scrooge. 

Ebeneezer Scrooge’s Big Jersey Christmas Show at George Street Playhouse in New Brunswick now through December 21st: This production puts a local twist on the holiday classic and is fun for the whole family.

Cirque Dreams Holidaze at State Theatre New Jersey in New Brunswick on December 12th and 13th. Put some dazzle in your entertainment schedule with this exciting theatrical presentation suitable for all ages.

Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer at The Growing Stage, The Children’s Theatre of NJ in Netcong from December 5th to December 21st: This musical adaptation of the beloved television special is sure to please families this season.

The Nutcracker by New Jersey Ballet at Mayo Performing Arts Center (MPAC) in Morristown from December 12th to December 27th.  The stunning holiday performances will feature live orchestral accompaniment by the New Jersey Symphony.

The Wizard of Oz at Centenary Stage Company in Hackettstown now through December 16th.  You’re off to see the wizard in this beloved story that is sure to charm.

Christmas with Cece Winans featuring Angie Winans and Debbie Winans at NJPAC in Newark on December 19th and 20th.  Enjoy some holiday cheer with the powerhouse vocals of these singers and check out the other shows at the Center.
