Wine lovers alert! There’s a winetasting and purchasing experience that is absolutely seamless and enjoyable. We had the pleasure of visiting taste56, the recently opened wine shop in Dumbo. Just steps from Brooklyn Bridge Park, the location is a great destination for New Yorkers and guests of the city.  The shop’s attractive modern interior is welcoming for you to browse their collection or have a tasting. 

taste56 selects the world’s best wines for their customers and gives them the tools to curate the perfect choices. They make it easy for you to drink wine that you really love. It’s simply a better way to buy wine.

We stopped by on a Friday evening. Bottles for tasting were smartly displayed in categories that included Light & Bright, Rich & Full, Smooth & Silky, Round & Fleshy, and others. The groupings included wines from around the globe with shared qualities that could be easily paired with your favorite foods.

We had an expertly guided tasting of three wines. A business size card accompanied each of the wines that stated the category, price, producer, wine, region, pronunciation, varietal, and the flavors and qualities. Having this information gives you the opportunity to become a much more educated wine buyer.  We savored Bodegas Muga Rioja Blanco 2021; San Salvatore Vetere 2022; and Pax Syrah North Coast 2021.

This beautiful, chic venue boasts a menu of 56 wines by the glass collaboratively curated by restaurateur and wine professional James Fantaci, and general manager Michael Brown. Complementing the extraordinary wine and beverage program, the kitchen is helmed by Executive Chef Vincent Cortese and offers a Modern American seasonally-driven menu with Italian and French influences.
