Disaronno Day on April 19 – Celebrate the Beloved Italian Liqueur

As Disaronno Day approaches on April 19th, it's the perfect time to toast 500 years of the world's favorite Italian liqueur – a timeless icon born in 1525 from a secret recipe inspired by artist Bernardino Luini in Saronno, Italy.

The global celebration, blending tradition with modern flair, invites everyone to embrace La Dolce Vita through Disaronno’s lineup of their Originale and Velvet. The celebration also includes “Godfather Week” that is happening now through April 19.

Disaronno Originale, a rich classic Italian almond-flavored liqueur, which has proudly delighted countless taste buds for centuries, gets its name from the Italian word ‘amaro’-bitter, amaretto translated, “a little bitter.” Sometimes made from a blend of apricot kernels, bitter almonds, peach stones, or almonds, amaretto traces its origin to Saronno. This versatile amaretto liqueur at 28% ABV icon, housed in its signature square-capped bottle, shines neat, on the rocks, or in cocktails like the Disaronno Sour or The Godfather, embodying timeless Italian Dolce Vita elegance.

Disaronno Velvet is a creamy, modern twist on the iconic Disaronno brand, blending the signature almond led flavor of Disaronno Originale with rich, velvety cream for a smooth, dessert like liqueur. Best served over ice, it offers a silky texture and a warming, aromatic profile of sweet almonds, vanilla, and subtle chocolate, making it ideal for after dinner sipping or as the base for indulgent cream cocktails. Packaged in a sleek, all white bottle with a distinctive square cap, Disaronno Velvet brings Italian elegance and a touch of Dolce Vita to any gathering, while remaining nut allergen friendly and gluten free.

Check out why two of New York City’s talented beverage professionals use Disaronno in their cocktails.

Matt Amsterdam, Bartender at Bird In Hand stated, “We’re so thrilled to be participating in Godfather Week with Disaronno! Being a neighborhood bar in New York City, and particularly in Harlem, the connections to the Godfather as a cultural touchstone fits so well with the vibe and hospitality we aspire to in The City. We’re very excited to be a part of this iconic brand, and to add our own touch – The Godfather of Harlem – to its legacy.”

Cesar Camilo, Bar Manager at ZUMA gave us some great insights about Disaronno. “Amaretto can be very versatile, especially when talking about Disaronno Originale,” he said. “The vast cocktail opportunities within the category allow a wide variety of cocktails, from sour to sweet, refreshing, and warming, making room for innovative cocktails that please a wide variety of cocktail enthusiasts.”

He continued: “For example, Disaronno is a pleasure to enjoy on the rocks as well as in its various amaretto-forward drinks, including the Disaronno Fizz, Italian Sparkler, and Disaronno Godfather. Amaretto is a must-have liqueur within a bartenders’ arsenal for cocktail recipe development. Disaronno Originale is our go-to at ZUMA. Its iconic and distinctive flavor can make all the difference. The rich, bold aromas make it ideal for cocktail innovation, bringing an extra layer of flavor and texture. And, of course, the perfect choice for the very popular Amaretto Sour. My favorite way to enjoy amaretto is in cocktails. The Amaretto Sour is my go-to drink when it comes to Disaronno Originale. I also sometimes use it in my coffee in the evening. It adds that unique, bittersweet almond taste!”
