Blue is universal,
Above and below.
The immense changing sky and the waves
Coming forward in foam and froth.
The blue of a whale’s fins
The blue morpho, the most beautiful butterfly wings.
The flying of moth in the air
And the back of a beetle.
The bottle filled with soap and suds
In liquid form beside a ribbon of blue.
Transparencies of a tall blue green vase through another in colorful tones.
The thick sweep of paint to create a sea of ultramarine.
The stars are twinkling in blue light
In a deep indigo sky.
An emotional blue, looking up at the sky on a sandy beach
The tide skipping beyond and beyond.
Poem, “Universal Blue,” and artwork, “Above and Below,” by Marsha Solomon.
