More and more people in today’s society choose to become vegan for ethical reasons and for health benefits. Veganism involves excluding all forms of animal cruelty and exploitation from aspects of your life. – Adopting a diet free from meat, eggs, and dairy products; and choosing to wear clothes not using substances derived from animals. Here are 4 ways to embrace a vegan lifestyle.

Learn

Read as much as you can about the benefits of veganism and familiarise yourself with what is involved. Becoming a vegan can be quite a daunting transition for some people, and it can be simpler to take it step by step. It isn’t a case of going on a diet; it’s a lifestyle choice. Discover what foods can be included in your new diet and what should be avoided. There are many big brand, popular foods out there that you probably don’t know are vegan.

It’s Not All About Food

Going vegan isn’t just about changing your diet. Vegan clothes, toiletries, and make-up should also feature in your lifestyle. The next time you buy shampoo or make-up, ensure that the product is not tested on animals and contains no animal derivatives. You will discover that vegan foundation does the same job as the non-vegan stuff and has the added bonus of being kind to animals. When looking at cosmetics, check that it is ‘cruelty-free’ and does not contain animal derivatives such as collagen, beeswax, carmine, keratin, guanine, lanolin,or squalene.

Vegan clothes are free from silk, wool, leather, fur, down feathers, shearling, angora, and cashmere. Suitable garments are made from cotton, hemp, man-made fibers, or even vegan leather, which can be made from microfibres, polyurethane, and even various plants such as mushrooms and fruit. Some sustainable women’s shoes even use sustainably sourced cork and mamona oil in its insoles.

Addition Before Subtraction

To ease yourself into the vegan lifestyle, add some vegan foods into your diet that you don’t usually eat a lot of, such as tofu, beans, legumes, and nuts. Try new recipes and find out what combinations of food you enjoy. Substitute non-vegan food for vegan ones gradually, so it isn’t a big shock – Swap dairy milk for soy or almond milk.

If you have a non-vegan food you absolutely love and think you will miss more than anything, ditch it from your diet last – when you are comfortable dealing without all of the other non-vegan foods. Missing a favorite food can jeopardize your new lifestyle, so wean yourself off it over a period of time or find a vegan substitute that satisfies your craving.

Health

Becoming a vegan isn’t just good for animals; it’s good for you!

Vegan diets seem very effective at helping people naturally reduce the amount of calories they eat, resulting in weight loss. This is probably due to the high amount of dietary fiber in the diet, which makes you feel full quickly.

It has been suggested that vegan diets can lower the risk of developing Type 2 diabetes, cancer, and Alzheimer’s disease. Joint swelling, morning stiffness, and other arthritis symptoms are significantly reduced by embracing a vegan lifestyle.
