Rosanna Scotto, the host of Good Day New York, has been a member of the Fox 5 News team since 1986. A six-time Emmy Award winner for anchoring and reporting for the News at 10 and Good Day New York, she has been essential in the operation of the family restaurant, Fresco by Scotto, and works there as “President of Schmoozing.” Rosanna lives to eat, drink, and be merry at the treasured family eatery.
Rosanna’s earliest memory of cooking was in her childhood. Her grandfather, who was one of the great cooks in the family, lived with the Scottos in Brooklyn. “Sunday mornings were the best,” she said. “I could smell the aroma of the sauce, and my grandfather would make meatballs with us. This family tradition carries on and now, I’m in charge. The torch has officially been passed.”

Fresco’s Dining Room
Fresco by Scotto got its start over three decades ago. Rosanna’s mom, Marion Scotto, who was engaged in her community as a volunteer for the Brooklyn Borough president, wanted to start a business. When she decided to open Fresco by Scotto in Manhattan, Rosanna’s brother and sister got involved and Rosanna would come in and help whenever she could. “We’re very proud of my mom for starting the restaurant when there were very few women restaurateurs,” she said. “She has been very successful.”
In the competitive Manhattan restaurant scene, Fresco by Scotto has remained a sought after reservation. “We don’t take people for granted and we treat the restaurant as an extension of our home,” Rosanna explained. “We also eat there daily. People like to feel special when they dine and we want them to have a wonderful experience.”
Fresco by Scotto has a dedicated and talented team that keeps it humming. Rosanna said that group has evolved over time with people behind the scenes and those in front of the house. “Mom comes in for lunch, and although my siblings have moved on, I am carrying it on to our new generation,” she said. “My son, LJ, has worked in the kitchen since his youth and he has a love for the business. My daughter, Jenna, is very adept at public relations and does the social media for us.”

Fresco’s Famous Potato and Zucchini Chips with Gorgonzola Cheese
Rosanna shared some of her favorite menu items served at Fresco by Scottto. Momma Scotto’s Meatballs are made with all beef and a little provolone, topped with marinara and ricotta. “They are tender and juicy with the right touch of cheese in the middle.” She called the Rigatoni Bolognese “a pure comfort food, year round.” She told us that some of the other customer favorites include the Farro Island Salmon, Dover Sole served over sauteed spinach and on weekends, guests can savor the Chicken Parmesan. Rosanna also pointed out that Fresco by Scotto offers gluten-free items and one that delights guests is their gluten-free Bombolini, a sweet Italian donut treat.
Don’t be surprised if you see a media personality, Broadway performer, politician, or movie star at Fresco by Scotto. Sylvester Stallone recently dined there enjoying the Italian fare with his family.
While Fresco by Scotto proudly serves favorite family recipes and top Italian dishes to suit all tastes and dietary preferences, the restaurant also has special events to make the dining scene enjoyable such as game nights, a DJ on select evenings, a Spring Fling, and a recent dance party with lessons. There are exciting plans for the future of the restaurant that include interior design improvements this summer, and delicious new menu items.
Rosanna Scotto, who handles her media career along with her dedication to the restaurant, is a role model for women who juggle busy schedules. “It’s an interesting balance,” she said. “I get up every day at 4:30 a.m. to do Good Day NY and other interviews. I concentrate on Fresco by Scotto for lunch and early dinners. My children are adults and busy with their devotion to the restaurant. It’s a delicate balance, but it can be done!”
When we asked Rosanna if there was anything else that she wanted our readers to know, she commented, “I always want to be sure guests are having a good time. A restaurant has to be nurtured for continued success. I’m excited for the future.”
