The Movement to Eliminate Body Odor

The famous missive that Napoleon wrote to his wife, Josephine: “I will return in three days. Don’t wash!” continues to be declared false by any number of historians. But it’s often invoked by some who believe that natural scents are a sexual turn on. In Napoleon’s time, people weren’t able

The famous missive that Napoleon wrote to his wife, Josephine: “I will return in three days. Don’t wash!” continues to be declared false by any number of historians. But it’s often invoked by some who believe that natural scents are a sexual turn on. In Napoleon’s time, people weren’t able to bathe as often and covered up their body odors with perfumes (if they could afford them). In modern times, taking care of unpleasant smells were often restricted to rolling or spraying underarms with a deodorant.

Now, however, there seems to be a war on BO. New products encourage us to spray every crevice of our bodies so we smell less like perspiration and more like sandalwood, lavender, lemon, springtime, or something else. Maybe it’s not a bad thing. Maybe in close quarters, we need to be more considerate of those around us. If so, there are many products available to help. While some promise to kill all the odors, others might just function like a nice perfume. Even Napoleon could’t argue with that.

Some choices:

Lume Invisible Spray Deodorant for Women – This may be the one that jump started the entire trend. Invented by a doctor who appeared in the product’s ads, Lume promised to target odor, on all those problem areas, for as much as 72 hours.

Degree Women Whole Body Deodorant Spray – This one has a fresh, citrus scent and is aluminum free. You can spray it anywhere you want to stop odor, pits, under boobs, lower back, thighs, feet and more.

Secret Whole Body Feminine Wash and Deodorant Spray – With a peach and vanilla blossom scent, this Secret duo will make sure you can deodorize your entire body with the wash, then target special areas with the spray.

Old Spice Whole Body Deodorant Spray for Men – Men can get in the action (or you can buy for your special someone) with Old Spice’s product being advertised on TV with an attractive husband-wife duo. (She uses it, too). Old Spice is well know for its scent – vanilla and shea.

L’Occitane Cleansing and Softening Almond Shower Oil. If you just want to smell beautiful after a shower, and need to soften your skin so you can shave without nicks, this L’Occitane oil is for you.

Michel Design Works Soap Bar – This French soap that smells like lilacs, has a beautiful design and is triple-milled. It’s the low tech way to smell great all over after a bath or shower.

Fans were disappointed when CBS announced the cancellation of the popular drama “Blue Bloods,” starring Tom Selleck as Frank Reagan, the head of a New York City police dynasty. The consolation prize was a new police drama, “Boston Blue,” starring Donnie Wahlberg, who played Frank’s son, Danny Reagan.

Healing In Real Time: How Connection Shapes Recovery For Women

Healing has a way of sneaking up on you. It’s not always the dramatic, movie-style moment where you suddenly feel whole again. More often, it’s found in the soft space between conversation and understanding, where someone else says, “I get it,” and you believe them. For many women navigating mental health recovery, that connection is the quiet turning point. It transforms the process from something isolating into something deeply human. Recovery is rarely linear, but

The Death of the DIY Move: Why New Yorkers Are Finally Letting Someone Else Carry the Couch

There’s a particular kind of optimism that strikes New Yorkers around lease renewal season — the “maybe I can do this myself” delusion. It usually begins on a random Tuesday night in May, somewhere between scrolling StreetEasy listings and Googling “how to transport a mattress without a truck.” It’s a beautiful fantasy: you, a couple of friends, a rented U-Haul, and the rugged individualism that built this city. Cut to reality — three flights of

The Billing Habits That Hold Small Businesses Back

Most small businesses don’t fall behind because they’re careless. It’s usually the small billing habits — the ones you barely notice — that end up choking cash flow. It’s the missed reminders, the invoices you forgot to send, and the work that goes unpaid until you finally get around to sorting it at the end of the week. And with research indicating that small businesses are sitting on more than $825 billion in unpaid invoices,
