For 17 years, Michael served as the Club’s Catering Director, where he played a pivotal role in establishing Ramsey as one of the region’s premier destinations for weddings, private events, and elevated hospitality experiences. Under his leadership, the club earned numerous accolades and built a reputation for exceptional service, attention to detail, and memorable guest experiences. Today, Michael oversees all aspects of Ramsey Golf & Country Club and Rare Bird Restaurant, focusing on enhancing dining, events, member engagement, and operations while continuing to elevate the guest experience with a customer-first approach and a strong vision for the future.
What first interested you in your area of the hospitality industry?
I’ve always enjoyed working with people and creating experiences that bring people together. Early in my career, I realized hospitality gave me the opportunity to combine organization, creativity, and personal connection all in one profession. Whether it’s a wedding, a special dinner, or a member event, being part of moments people remember for years is incredibly rewarding. I was drawn to the energy of the industry and the fact that no two days are ever the same.
Who are a few of the people that have encouraged your career?
I’ve been fortunate to work alongside many talented professionals throughout my career who helped shape my approach to hospitality and leadership. The teams I’ve worked with at Ramsey Golf & Country Club over the years have been a huge influence on me. I’ve also learned a great deal from chefs, event professionals, and mentors who emphasized the importance of consistency, service, and treating every guest like they matter — because they do.
What challenges do you think people face in your industry?
Hospitality is an incredibly rewarding field, but it’s also very demanding. The biggest challenge is balancing the fast-paced nature of the business while consistently delivering a high level of service. Guests’ expectations continue to evolve, so adaptability is important. Staffing and maintaining work-life balance can also be challenging in an industry that often requires nights, weekends, and holidays. But if you genuinely enjoy taking care of people, those challenges become part of what makes the work fulfilling.
Can you cite a few accomplishments that have given you great pride and elevated your work?
One accomplishment I’m especially proud of is helping grow Ramsey Golf & Country Club into a highly respected venue for weddings and private events over the years. Seeing the club earn recognition and become a place where families create lasting memories has been very rewarding. I’m also proud of helping oversee the continued evolution of the club and being part of the launch and growth of Rare Bird Restaurant, which has quickly become a destination for dining and hospitality in the community.
What piece of advice can you lend to others who are considering a career such as yours?
Be prepared to work hard, stay humble, and always lead by example. Hospitality is about people first, and success comes from consistency, teamwork, and genuine care for the guest experience. Every role in this industry teaches you something valuable, so never stop learning. Building relationships and maintaining a positive attitude go a long way in hospitality.
Everyone who works in hospitality has a story to tell about something incredible that happened on the job. What’s one that you often tell?
One of the most memorable parts of this industry is seeing how meaningful events become for families. I’ve had couples come back years after their wedding to celebrate anniversaries or bring their children to the club for special occasions. Those full-circle moments remind you that hospitality is about much more than food or events — it’s about creating memories people carry with them for a lifetime.
What do you hope people understand about those who work in your area of hospitality?
I hope people understand how much dedication, teamwork, and behind-the-scenes effort goes into creating seamless experiences. Hospitality professionals truly care about making guests feel welcomed and comfortable. There’s a tremendous amount of planning, coordination, and passion involved in every successful event or dining experience.
