You may ask why the Central Park Zoo, part of the Wildlife Conservation Society, is so soothing. Perhaps it’s because the animals are so well cared for as we all should be. They reside in thoughtfully curated areas, and the variety of interesting species speaks to the beauty and diversity of our global environment.

This week, I had the opportunity to view the two grizzly bears who spent their afternoon napping comfortably on a rocky precipice, seemingly without a care in the world. Zoo guests were wowed by a sea lion in the large Central Garden & Sea Lion Pool who was floating lazily on his back while being warmed by the sunshine. It was delightful so see so many people laughing, snapping pictures and enjoying the simple pleasure of observing a contented animal.

And oh, the birds! The Central Park Zoo has the two-story indoor Tropic Zone, a climate-controlled building where you can observe exotic and colorful feathered friends such as Scarlet Ibises, Macaws, and so many more. These creatures never cease to amaze me with their grace and beauty.
I believe we can learn a lot from the animals who inhabit the Central Park Zoo as we admire and observe them, and I am not alone. When I recently visited, there were countless families, school groups, couples and singles strolling the grounds. It is an example of a peaceable kingdom we can all aspire to.
