Women are in just about every industry, but they dominate some more than others. This article is all about spotlighting some of these industries and highlighting some of their most important duties.

Far too many of them are overlooked or undervalued, kind of like how it’s easy to ignore SEO for personal injury attorneys even though personal injury attorneys are common and firms need to take advantage of anything they can to stand out. Read on to gain a new appreciation for some of the most overlooked careers you can pursue.

Healthcare

When you think about women in healthcare, your mind likely immediately jumps to nurses. This is a fair thought as a vast majority of nurses are women, but they are more than just nurses. They tend to also be general medical assistants, dental hygienists, veterinarians and nutritionists. We could spend all day just on highlighting the benefits of each career path, but we’ll keep it simple and just focus on a few of these.

Nurses are a vital part of the healthcare industry and not only have a wide variety of duties but can also work in a lot of different places. The common job sites that probably come to mind when you think about nurses are hospitals and docotr’s offices and yeah, you do find many nurses in these places but they also work in nursing homes or even at people’s homes for hospice care.

Some people with chronic conditions may have a nurse by their side daily to help them complete tasks around the house, take their medications and live the best life possible. They perform all kinds of jobs, too, like creating medical plans and administering medicine to performing simple tasks at check ups like weighing patients and checking their blood pressure. They often also do a lot of paperwork that is not only vital but also makes the doctor’s job much easier.

Many healthcare jobs are overlooked, and few know this pain more than veterinarians. They are typically viewed as being less important than regular doctors because they are animal doctors. However, human doctors have a wide variety of roles they can fulfill leading to many specialists like gynecologists or dermatologists.

If animal care had as many different types of specialists as human care does, it would be very difficult to properly treat your dog when it gets injured. Of course there are plenty of specialists in animal care but the number is nowhere near what humans alone have. This means that vets need to not only be basic animal doctors who can diagnose illnesses in creatures who not only can not describe their own symptoms or pain but are also terrified; they also need to be trained to use a lot of equipment, surgery and even anesthesiology.

On top of all of this, vets need to be able to treat a wide variety of animals, from your average pet dogs and cats to livestock like cattle to even exotic or wild animals like deer and lynxes. Remember this the next time you see a high vet bill and cut them some slack; they are getting a lot of work out to that expensive degree.

Childcare

The entire childcare industry is dominated by women. This means that most daycare workers, teachers, coaches and even camp counselors are women. Teachers in particular have a lot of duties, from creating education plans for the school year to assigning and grading homework to actually teaching the lessons they planned and ensuring every child understood the lesson they were just given. That’s not to say other childcare workers have it easy, though.

Daycare workers spend their day supervising and sometimes teaching young children while their parents are busy. Camp counselors not only take children on exciting outdoor adventures but also keep them safe the entire time. And these are just a handful of childcare careers; imagine what challenges coaches and nannies also face.

Cosmetic Care

The cosmetology industry is vast and takes up a number of careers, from hairstylists to makeup artists, and so it may come as no surprise that most cosmetologists are women. Depending on their speciality, they may cut or dye your hair, do your makeup or even help you nail down the perfect skin routine. They can be found in a ton of places, from freely roaming around and doing their care at a client’s house to working in spas or on cruise ships.

While much of their work can be seen as luxuries, those who focus on skincare are becoming more and more important as people pay more attention to the health of the largest organ of the human body (yes, skin is considered an organ). They can also often aid in relaxation by offering massages or in self-esteem by using makeup and hairstyles to showcase your best features and remind you that yes, you are beautiful.

Speech-Language Pathologists

Speech-language pathology is a growing industry as people realize just how common and debilitating speech and language disorders are. Many different kinds of people need to see SLPs, including people with speech disorders, language disorders or even problems swallowing.

You may have assumed that they mostly help children who stutter or have trouble expressing themselves through speech, and while this is a vital part of the industry, it is far from the only one. Troubles with swallowing can be caused by many things but are typically the result of an injury or illness and can happen at any stage of life.

People with autism may seek the help of SLPs to learn how to better either communicate their own feelings and thoughts or understand those expressed by others. Those who are hard of hearing or deaf may also find the exercises done in the rehabilitation offered by SLPs to be effective at helping the underrated people around them better.

All of these tasks are not just useful for children but also for adults. Some people even set up appointments just to learn how to communicate better. Their services go under the radar for most people but are vital in increasing how well we communicate with one another and making the world a better place overall as a result.
