A to Z Wineworks – CEO Amy Prosenjak Talks Oregon Wines

Here’s exciting news for our readers that enjoy learning about wines and the companies behind them. A to Z Wineworks, LLC brings together three celebrated Oregon wine brands that include A to Z Wineworks, REX HILL, and Erath.

Each of these brands are deeply rooted in a sense of place, distinctive in character, and are nationally recognized for authenticity and sustainability. The company is championing wines that are crafted with quality while honoring the region’s historic and pioneering winemaking heritage.

A to Z Wineworks has recently joined forces with Colangelo & Partners, an integrated communications agency specializing in wine, food and spirits, to enhance awareness of their diverse brand portfolio. In the future, there will be a focus on the artistry, craft and sustainability that is behind A to Z Wineworks’ commitment to “commerce with conscience.”

We had the opportunity to interview A to Z Wiineworks’ CEO Amy Prosenjak who gave us some fascinating insights.

Amy joined A to Z Wineworks in 2007, relocating to Oregon to help lead the fastgrowing brand. Over nearly two decades, she has been instrumental in transforming the business from an 80,000 case winery into Oregon’s largest wine brand, producing up to 450,000 cases in some vintages. She directed major expansions of the winemaking campus and strengthened the company’s operational and commercial capabilities during a period of rapid growth.

Recognized as a 2023 Portland Woman of Influence, Amy remains deeply engaged in the community. She serves on several boards, including Oregon Business & Industry, Oregon Business Council, Literary Arts, YPO Oregon Gold Chapter, and the Virginia Garcia Memorial Health Center Holdings Board.

Why are wines from Oregon becoming so popular and are receiving top accolades?

Oregon has a lot going for it that makes it unique and ideal for winegrowing – cool climate, geographic features that mitigate harsh conditions, like coastal mountain ranges, expansive river systems, and incredibly diverse soil types. The accolades have been there, especially for Pinot Noir, but now we’re starting to see broader recognition across varietals and types like Chardonnay, sparkling wines, and Riesling. Being a part of our business for almost 20 years, it’s exciting that interest in brand Oregon continues to grow with consumers.

Tell us a little about the environmental stewardship by A to Z Wineworks.

A to Z farms and operates to meet a variety of environmental standards as dictated by a number of certifications, importantly B Corp and International Wineries for Climate Action (IWCA) are our guiding principles. We were the first U.S. winery to become B Corp certified in 2014, which means we’re held accountable by third party B Lab to meet rigorous environmental and social standards across our business practices. In 2023, we were the first Oregon winery to join IWCA, committing to tackling the climate crisis collectively. Environmental stewardship has been at the core of our values since our founding and we’re proud to align ourselves with organizations that are driven to pursue progress together. We believe it’s part of our responsibility to take a leading position in this work.

We are impressed by the diversity of your portfolio.  Can you tell us a little about a few of your outstanding wines?

We’re best known for our Pinot Noir, but our Pinot Gris might be the most versatile pairing wine out there – we’ve never seen it stumped!  Our Riesling is getting some attention lately, and it’s well-deserved. Aromatic, juicy, and amazing with spicy foods.  We have a wine for every occasion!

What else would you like Woman Around Town readers to know?

A to Z’s mission has always been to provide the highest quality wine at the greatest sustainable value, while combining commerce with conscience. We’ve been consistent in those values and I think it shows, not only through the quality of our wines but through the culture we’ve fostered here. We hope we bring that to the table – and to the glass – when people choose A to Z. Good wine, good company, doing good… everyone is invited.
