Poet’s Corner – Shadows and Secrets

There was a time when mornings
unfolded slowly,
Italy’s cobblestones beneath me,
France’s light brushing my skin.
Days filled with yoga,
pedicures, unhurried walks
with my dog,
and sleep like the world owed me
every dream.
I woke late, lingered
on the patio with a book,
the sun warm on my shoulders,
time, a current
I drifted upon.

Back then, I knew
the luxury of details—
shaved legs, pressed jeans,
a dab of perfume
before slipping out the door.
Polished shoes, organized freezers,
savoring each bite.
Marvel movies flickered in dark rooms,
heroes cast in the shadows
of my own daydreams.
Mystique, the shapeshifter,
seamless in her transformations,
slipping between forms,
blurring the lines
between hero and villain.

What I wouldn’t give
for that power, to bend
the rules of who I am,
to shed this skin,

from time to time
step into another.

But in this world,
these gifts seem far
from reach,
to heal, to defy age,
to remain ageless
as the years carve lines
into everyone else,

and I wait my turn.

The other night, Marsha Solomon saw an amazing sky with lots of colorful swirls. She was inspired to write a poem and create artwork for all of us to enjoy that moment.

About this poem, Robin Clark says, “We all have a story of loss…this was part of mine. Hoping this finds you with joy in your heart.”

Every now and then, I’m sent a book to review, am blown away by the writing, and wonder how this author has not been on my radar until now. After reading “The Left and the…

No one in the small and upscale Long Island community of Cold Harbor has met the resident of the crumbling mansion on the hill. Is she a harmless recluse or something more sinister?

Miranda Shulman, in her first novel, employs a popular plot line – twins, specifically the bad twin/good twin theme. Fortunately, Shulman sets the action in the upscale Brooklyn community of Park Slope with intriguing characters…

Planning a Family Vacation That Feels Complete with Everyone Included

You pack the bags, double-check the snacks, get the kids in the car, and then pause because the dog is standing by the door like it knows something is off. That moment tends to linger longer than expected, even after you leave. For a lot of families, trips are not just about where to go, but what to do with the pet. And that question comes up early. Places like Pigeon Forge have made that

Common HVAC Problems Homeowners Face During Summer

Every summer, I find myself bracing for the heat in Virginia Beach. There’s something about those long, humid days that really tests not just my patience, but my home’s cooling system too. I’ve learned the hard way that when the temperature climbs, my AC doesn’t just work harder—it works overtime. And honestly, when something goes wrong, it always seems to happen at the worst possible moment. One of the first things I usually notice is

How to Find the Right Childcare: 6 Tips for Parents

Choosing where to leave a child each morning is one of the hardest calls a parent can make. The pressure only grows when the numbers sink in. In Utah, infant care now runs over $11,000 a year, based on the Economic Policy Institute’s 2025 analysis. That eats up close to 9% of the median four-person household income in the state, comfortably above the 7% affordability benchmark set by the U.S. Department of Health and Human
