Poet’s Corner – Hildegard of Bingen

For Women's History Month, Marsha Solomon wrote a poem and created an artwork about Hildegard of Bingen. She was a mystic in the middle ages and full of great talents and a great faith for life!

Music sings the chants of Hildegard

A life of love

A visionary, mystic in the high middle ages

Sweeping brilliances across time,

Through music, medicine, poems, language and illuminations

Reflections of light and radiance

Crossing barriers before others knew,

Theological work in volumes

Healing through seeds of knowledge to all

The living planet.

So long ago and yet so close in blending

Of the senses

All in play upon play

Mastering the winds of heaven and earth

Admired by popes and natural science

And artwork recalling seasons, the universe and angels

A woman, a voice of faith.

Marsha Solomon’s poem is titled “Hildegard of Bingen” and the artwork is called “Mystic Across Time.”
