While many medical conditions can affect both women and men, it has been shown that women are less likely to come forward about their symptoms, due to embarrassment or shame. This is why it is so important that we share knowledge about women’s health conditions and stop body shaming altogether. In this article, we’ll discuss six of the most common conditions that can affect women.

Cervical Cancer

Cervical cancer occurs only in women and is present in the cells of the cervix. In most cases, a sexually transmitted disease (HPV) is responsible. When the body’s immune system fails, it can cause the cervical cells to become cancer cells, years later from when the individual was first exposed. Treatment includes surgery, radiation therapy, or chemotherapy, depending on the level of severity.

Breast Cancer

In the most recent study, it was found that over 12 million women in the world suffer from breast cancer. Generally, you might feel it begin by noticing a small lump in your breast, or changes to the color of your nipple. There are different types and stages. However, the most common treatments involve surgery, hormone therapy, radiation therapy, and chemotherapy. Medical needs can be expensive, which is why everyone should consider investing in health insurance, like this mutual of omaha medicare supplement plan g.

Anxiety

Women are more than twice as likely to suffer from anxiety than men, with an estimated 264 million people suffering from the disorder. While it does consist of many symptoms, it generally causes a sense of panic and worry that begins to affect an individual’s daily life. Medication and other relaxation techniques can help decrease and manage anxiety, and generally, most people can recover from the condition.

Osteoporosis

Although men can also get osteoporosis, it is more common in women because they generally have smaller and thinner bones. It occurs when the bones become weak and brittle, causing pain and an increased risk of breakages. A healthy diet and limited exercise can help maintain the condition, as well as prescribed medication from the doctor.

Anorexia

Anorexia has been found to be more common in women than men and is situated under the eating disorder tree, alongside bulimia and binge eating. Individuals with this condition have a fear of gaining weight and don’t see themselves as the way that they indeed are. The process of reversing this condition can be a long one, and many times psychotherapy is involved.

Pregnancy Complications

When a woman becomes pregnant, their body undergoes many changes. Many complications can occur both post-natal and pre-natal, which is why they must take extra care during this time. Some of the most common complications include gestational diabetes, preeclampsia, and high blood pressure.

All women are strong, and it’s vital that we help each other through these tough times and makes sure that we share correct information about it. By banding together, we can take a stand and help raise awareness of women’s health conditions.
