Using your clothes to make a statement or to communicate your vibe is a great way to express your personal style without having to speak. Each person’s take on style is unique and can be a reflection of their personality as well as their mood on a given day. To break out of your fashion rut, we’ve put together a few simple tips to help you put together the perfect outfit every time you step foot outside your house.

Declutter Your Closet

Decluttering your closet from clothes that you no longer wear is a great way to let go of excess items that are simply taking up valuable real estate in your closet. Recycle, donate or give away your old clothes and organize the remaining garments into categories such as sweaters, tops, skirts, dresses and pants. Use hangers for heavier clothes and any women’s designer clothing to support and prevent it from stretching. 

If you find it difficult to decide whether to let an item of clothing go, try the Marie Kondo method, which encourages you to only hold onto things that speak to the heart and spark joy.

Know Your Body Shape

One fashion faux pas that we often see is people dressing in a way that does not flatter their natural body shape. People who dress well tend to wear items that compliment or accentuate their figure rather than trying to wear styles that may not suit them. 

Once you know what shape you are you can adapt your style to your body shape. Not only will this help you to look great, but it will also make you feel more comfortable in what you wear. For example, if you are pear-shaped clothing that enhances the upper part of your body is best for balancing out your proportions whereas a rectangle body shape will benefit from belts and fitted waists which provide more of a curve to the midsection.

Knowing your body shape can help you to highlight your best features, bringing out your confidence as well as your sense of style.

Create a Capsule Wardrobe

Every closet should contain some staple clothing items which can stand the test of time such as a pair of jeans, sweater, plain t-shirts, a black dress, a white shirt, and a cardigan.

These are the essential building blocks of a wardrobe offering you a selection of versatile and interchangeable items that go well together and never go out of fashion. These timeless pieces tend to be in neutral colors and allow you to maximize your outfits with a minimum amount of clothing.

Since these are pieces you will wear regularly, it is best to invest in good quality items that will last longer and look nicer rather than fast fashion items which are wasteful and bad for the environment.

By following the three tips in this article you can begin putting together perfect outfits that feel comfortable and flatter your figure time and time again.
